WHY USE BIOMETRICS AT ALL ?

In secure locations or where there are suspicions that employees may commit a time keeping fraud or the commonly known “buddy punch” where they make clockings for several other employees, then a biometric form of measurement is the only guaranteed method of recording attendances.

WHY HANDSCANS ?

As specialists in the field of time recording for the last 32 years we have investigated several methods of biometric validation of employees and have found in practical applications that the handscanner is by far the most reliable.

Fingerprint readers have been available to us for at least a decade and during that time, and using a number of manufacturers of readers, we found a high rate of rejects and failure-to-reads, often due to normal outside influences, dirt on hands, cuts on fingers etc - we also found the fingerprint readers to be susceptible to vandalism and of course suspicion from employees as to the robustness of the storage of such sensitive information as a persons fingerprint.

WHY IS THE HANDSCANNER DIFFERENT ?

The Ingersol Rand handscanner does not read or store any sensitive information about the person, it simply holds three recent scans of the top of their hand and by comparing up to 90 data points can validate that it is (or perhaps is not) the same hand that is registered to that user, it does not hold user names or anything that can identify that person to a third party.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Initially an employee is registered at the terminal by a supervisor, three scans are taken of their hand and they are assigned a PIN. After that the employee simply enters their PIN and places their hand on the plate for confirmation within two or three seconds - at that point the employee is logged in or out.

HOW ACCURATE IS IT ?

Our Ingersoll Rand Handpunch terminal has a false accept rate of 0.1% (thats one tenth of one percent), a false reject rate also of 0.1% and a failure to enrol rate of 0.01% (one hundreth of one percent) - we were happy enough with those figures to become official Ingersoll Rand Handpunch distributors.

WHAT IS THE MEMORY CAPACITY ?

Our Ingersoll Rand Handpunch terminal is supplied in three sizes - the smallest will hold 50 employee details, then 100 employees and the largest 512 employees. One of the smaller units can easily have its capacity upgraded at a later date.
